Initial Comment:
Currently it's defined as of type 'binary', which is translated to a BLOB type for the MySQL backend. I ran into cases in which the document didn't fit. I suggest we make that a LONGBLOB.

AFAIS there is no 'longbinary' type of field, so it would need to be defined for each DB backend.
