After too much trying to fix it I got a different distribution, 1.7.1-tls, and built that from scratch for my Centos env. This one seems to have logging working OK. So I would tell anyone who downloaded the src-only 1.7.1 tar to reconsider as I could never get logging to work with that one.<br>
