Congratulations on solving the problem!

Anyway, speaking about resetting the variable -
it's mentioned in the documentation [1] under the
Hint #1. I faced this behavior myself, and the script
started doing what I wanted - after resetting the variable's
value to NULL before assigning a value to it.
