After release 2.4.0 or 2.4.2 it became a requirement.
I can't find any reference about the Python version on our website,
could you tell me where you read it? We did update the INSTALL file,
which now states that Python 2.5 or higher is needed.

Well, that's up to you. If you use an older version you may encounter
some bug that is already solved in a further release, but if that
release suits your needs, you should be fine.

If your scripts work in Python 2.4 they will most likely work in Python
2.5. Anyway, Python 2.4 is really old now so I really encourage you to
upgrade. Ubuntu has shipped with with Python 2.6 as default for quite
some time, and the next Debian release will also have Python 2.6 as the
default.
