Hi,

I also think that locking->busy wait->sched_yield() is problematic by itself. I'm not a scheduling specialist, but looks like this mechanism do not allow utilizing the full power of modern n-way SMP machines.

Actually I did the experiment with pthread mutexes, Andrei also suggested it. But the performance was even worse than assembler locks.
