I was remembering now the last time I saw the 407 error you are
getting, the reason in my case was that I misconfigured my phone,
until I put the right settings for the registar and the proxy server I
could register, but none of the calls was able to be established.
I've no experience with x-lite, but I found the best VoIP softclients
to be sjphone and twinkle.

Another thing that might help you is to use ngrep to view the sip
traffic of your network:
ngrep -d any -qt port 5060
