  s.fill transformations: Allow whitespace in quoted params

This patch actually fixes several issues:
    * allows the "s.fill" functions to be used for alignment purposes
    * bugfix: possible "s.fill" usage which caused infinite loop
    * new: trim.h string trimming macros
    * some code refactoring

Fixes #531
